Multi-Agency Raids on Crawley & Reigate Waste Sites
Recent raids on waste sites show waste site operators need to be ready for surprise visits by authorities, and ensure they are operating in a compliant manner.
The Environment Agency, Reigate and Banstead, and Tandridge district councils and Crawley Borough Council, British Transport Police and Openreach have worked together in a concerted effort to target poor performing businesses focusing on metal theft, including cables and catalytic converters.
The series of early morning raids took place in early December and discovered 4 illegal waste sites which were failing to comply with their permits. Further investigations will follow, and the appropriate action will take place to improve compliance at the sites, this could include enforcement action.
