Operator Licensing
We strongly advise operators to regularly and routinely audit and check PMI sheets to ensure they are correctly filled in. Common errors include not just stretching inspection intervals but the declaration of roadworthiness not being signed, the rectification work not being indicated as carried out and details such as brake performance and tyre tread depth not being recorded.
Operators are under an obligation to keep records for at least 15 months all driver defect reports, all safety inspections, routine maintenance and repairs to vehicles and trailers and these records need to be made available to DVSA on request. It is a given that such records must be sufficiently detailed and complete to constitute a complete record of all maintenance carried out on a vehicle or trailer.
