Why it's Important to Heed Police Safety Advice
Police Safety Advice and Rules on the road, should be respected and adhered to at all times. Failure to do so can result not only in potentially dangerous situations, but also enforcement action and fines. Such is the case for two lorry drivers that ignored Police advice during bad weather conditions on a part of the A1 in Scotland.
The lorry drivers continued down a route of the A1 in Scotland despite Police closing it to high-sided vehicles, due to winds of up to 70 mph. This resulted in both of their lorries overturning. One overturned between Thistly Cross and the Spot Roundabout, while the other overturned in Thorntonloch, partially blocking the road.
Both drivers could now be facing prosecutions for the incidents, after being reported to both the procurator fiscal and the Traffic Commissioner for Scotland.
Incidents like these show just how important heeding Police safety notices and advice is if you are a road transport operator, not just from a safety standpoint, but also to maintain compliance with law.
The drivers could be looking at a fine or even a suspension of their operating licences.
